1. Hike to Tiger's Nest
Bhutan's Most Iconic Spiritual Journey
The hike to Paro Taktsang, widely known as Tiger's Nest, is the most iconic and spiritually significant experience in Bhutan. Dramatically perched on a sheer cliff face at approximately 3,120 meters above sea level, this sacred monastery symbolizes Bhutan's deep-rooted Buddhist heritage.
The trek begins from Paro Valley and winds through pine forests draped in prayer flags. Along the way, hikers encounter viewpoints offering breathtaking panoramas of the monastery seemingly floating above the clouds. The journey typically takes 4–6 hours round trip and is moderately challenging.
Beyond the physical challenge, the hike is a spiritual pilgrimage. Tiger's Nest is believed to be the meditation site of Guru Rinpoche, who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan in the 8th century. Read our complete hiking guide
